COACH VACATION OR SICK DAY MAKE-UP CLASSES
If a coach schedules a vacation day or is sick and cannot coach then a substitute coach will be offered. Please note that if a coach becomes suddenly ill then it can become very difficult to find a substitute coach and the class may be cancelled on very short notice. If a coach uses a vacation day and it is impossible to find a substitute coach then makeup classes for all missed days will be offered. If a coach is sick and we are unable to find a substitute coach then we are NOT required to make up the class (although we will try our best).
Make-up classes may be scheduled via phone, email, or in person with administrative staff. If you are unable to attend a make-up class, please call or email Rideau Gymnastics in advance to cancel. Classes that are not made up within the month will be forfeited and is not transferable for the following month.
Classes are subject to cancellation, rescheduling, or combining as needed pending enrolment.
Holiday Closings — all scheduled holiday closings are listed in the Rideau Gymnastics Recreational Calendar and are included in the program-year class-tuition calculation.
Weather Closings — in rare circumstances, for the safety of our Students and Staff, we may remain closed due to inclement weather such as snow, sleet or ice. *Note: All unscheduled closings will be announced by email, on our telephone recording, and will be posted on the Rideau Gymnastics Centre website (www. rideaugymnastics.org) by 8:30 a.m. for morning classes, noon for afternoon classes, and 2 p.m. for evening classes. The coaching staff reserves the right to cancel practices for a reason at any time. We will strive to provide a make-up class.
If your child advances to the next level, he/she is not required to wait for the next session to switch classes.
We encourage each student to change classes during the session when they have passed all their skills by their coach. No additional fee will apply. However, if there is only a short time remaining in the current session, we ask that the child waits until the next session to register for the next billing session to level up.
ARRIVAL / PICK-UP
Students are expected to be ready to start practice on time, which means arriving at the gym at least 5 minutes in advance, in order to get dressed and otherwise ready. Please ensure your child uses the bathroom facilities before class to maximize practice time. Athletes should not be on the gym mats or equipment except during class time and accompanied by a coach. Gymnasts are required to wait in the parent viewing area until they are instructed to enter the gym floor by a coach. After your child’s class is over we ask that you come into the Rideau Gymnastic gym for pick up to ensure that an adult is present and children are safely picked up. Please pick up your student on time. Instruct your student to wait inside. Rideau Gymnastics permits a 10-minute grace period for occasional and unexpected circumstances.
Also, parents/guests are not permitted in the Gym at any time (except for special events allowed by RG). Please be aware that gymnasts that are 7 years of age and under may be accompanied by a parent to our change room. Otherwise, gymnasts ages 8 and up should go to the change rooms in our facility on their own. Parents of the opposite child sex are not allowed in the change room.
COMMUNICATION WITH COACHES
It is important for the coach to know if your child has any special problems or anxieties as these are sure to affect your child’s performance in the gym. You can talk to the coach very briefly before or after practice, but for matters that are important and require time, call the office to arrange to get together at a mutually convenient time. Please do not hesitate to communicate with the coach if you have any concerns. It is important that lines of communication are open and any misunderstandings and/or concerns are addressed promptly.
Safety of our athletes and your vehicles is important. Therefore, please park in designated parking spaces only. Please do not park in or block the lined entrance or exit to and from the facility. There is NO PARKING in the drop-off area! A drop-off stop allows not more than 5 min (to help your child to enter the change room). For everyone’s protection, we ask that you please drive slowly! Do not take a chance on your child running to and from your car. The parking lot is unsupervised and not safe for unattended children. Thank you for your help with this.
We recommend students dress in comfortable active wear such as gymnastic suits, t-shirts, and shorts. Baggy shirts, neon-coloured shirts, zippers, strings, hoodies, jean shorts or shorts with pockets constitute clear safety dangers and are not permitted. Students are required to have bare feet during practice. Do not wear socks or tights because they are slippery on various equipment, and therefore potentially dangerous. Gymnastic shoes and water shoes are accepted. Please refrain from wearing rings, bracelets, necklaces, and hoop or dangling earrings during practice. Small studded earrings are permitted. Any long hair should be pulled back with a headband, elastics, and/or barrettes.
SAFETY / DISCIPLINE
Gymnastics is a sport requiring great discipline. Gymnastics skills themselves, due to their nature, involve a certain degree of risk and potential injury. Gymnastics class activities, due to the constant movement of students, on multiple apparatus, through many levels and planes of space, can also contain a certain degree of danger. Students are expected and benefit themselves from maintaining focus, self-discipline, and control while in class. It is the responsibility of the athlete to use the equipment safely and to behave in an orderly and respectful manner at all times. Students must remain with their class, in their designated area. Horseplay, disruptive, distracting or otherwise dangerous behavior of any kind, including disruptive or distracting language, will not be tolerated.
Please inform us of any physical or medical information regarding your child that may affect their performance. Please keep your child at home if they are feeling ill in order to limit the spread of germs and/or illness!
Rideau Gymnastics has an open-view policy so parents are welcome to drop in at any time to watch their child practice. Rideau Gymnastics offers complimentary Wi-Fi for parents and guardians. For the safety of your child/children and for insurance purposes we ask that you remain in the viewing area and not be a distraction to the athletes and/or coaches. As a parent in the viewing area, please keep in mind that you are also a member of Rideau Gymnastics and as such are a representative for Rideau Gymnastics and the athletes and coaches who train and work here. It is your responsibility to maintain respect for other parents, athletes, and coaches. A positive conversation will make others feel welcome and will encourage them to be actively involved, foster a stronger parent group and cohesiveness among parents.
We try to keep our facility as clean as possible. If you see something that needs our attention, please notify us immediately. Since we develop high-level athletes, they go through a case of chalk every three months which keeps them safe but ends up in our filters and vacuums every day. So, please excuse the chalk when they are at work!
LOST AND FOUND
Rideau Gymnastics Center is not responsible for any items lost or stolen on our premises. We cannot guarantee the security of personal items left in change rooms during classes and we do not guarantee that items lost will be found. Therefore, please leave all valuables at home. Should you lose something, there is a Lost & Found bin for clothing which occasionally we will clear out by donating the unclaimed items to charity. Please check it regularly.
Groups that participate in classes two hours or longer will be given a five-minute break during their class. Gymnasts are encouraged to bring a small, healthy, nut-free snack and a drink. Examples of appropriate snacks include fruit, granola bars, cheese strings, and yogurt. Please do NOT bring any sort of nut product into the gymnasium as a precaution for anyone in our building who has any type of nut allergy, no matter how severe. Students can bring their own water bottles, however we do have access to a water fountain located by the ring tower. Water bottles and food are permitted in the gym provided they remain in the designated areas.
- Drinks other than pure water are absolutely prohibited in the gymnasium, no matter what they are named or called.
- Absolutely no chewing gum.
Parents may take pictures (with no flash) and video of their family athletes from the parent viewing areas. Photography and video in the gym area would be allowed only with the coach permission.
*Prices are inclusive of all applicable taxes.
*The GO fee is a $25.00 annual insurance fee that is required by Gymnastics Ontario. This fee covers each student for the
period July 1st through June 30th and is non-refundable. Please remember to add this per-child fee onto your first session fee!
