Early Drop-off from 8:00 am and late pick-up until 5:30 pm is $5.95 per day or $25 per 5 days week or $20 per 4 days week
Throughout the week, campers will immerse themselves in the worlds of physics, chemistry, biology and geology. They will learn about different types of chemical reactions, how various substances are created and interact, discover the laws of physics and how to recognize and use knowledge about them in everyday life, investigate rock formations, have a close look at the animal and plant kingdoms, and test out experiments all week long. Working with an expert scientist, campers will be able to have fun with science and be challenged to learn as they play!
NEW: In order to keep the numbers reduced, our popular Gems and Minerals camp is incorporated this year in the general Discover Science camp. Therefore, Discover Science campers will spend time investigating geology, looking up close at our rock and fossil collections, discovering facts about various minerals, working with specialized equipment for cutting, polishing and analyzing various rocks.
Campers will benefit from all of Rideau Gymnastics’s facilities and participate in a variety of physical activities including games, trampoline, stretching and tumbling,, and our ninja obstacle course.
Is this workshop appropriate for my camper?
This camp is open to children between the ages of 6 and 13 with all levels of experience. Campers will work in groups based on age and skill.
What will my camper learn?
While each week of camp will have different projects, common subjects tackled in the camp are:
- How chemical compounds react to create interesting effects
- Observing the plant and animal kingdoms
- How various forces play a role in everyday life
- How rocks are formed, what is inside of rocks and how old are various landscapes
- How to think critically when answering questions through experimentation
- The basics of scientific observation and procedure
What will my camper create?
Campers will conduct experiments in several science areas, create various compounds from harmless chemicals, build simple structures, collect and analyze samples. They will be encouraged and shown how to document their findings in a journal. Your scientists will show off their findings and some of their experiments to fellow campers, and will take home some of their compounds, structures and collected samples.
